Catering ramps up again

Renmark Apex has once again been assisting the local schools with their fundraising efforts by providing members and the catering van to cook hot chips, donuts and fairy floss.  Congratulations to the organising committees at Renmark High School Spring Carnival and Renmark North Primary School Continental on your efforts.

Both nights were a success and we look forward to being involved again next year.

Renmark Apex Club – Catering Van = Finished (Finally)

Well, since the Apex Club decided in May 2009 to re-build our old catering van, we have slowly chipped away at pulling the old van apart (the easy bit), and then building the new one (the hard part). The project was part funded with a grant of approximately $4,000 from the Foundation for Regional and Rural Renewal (FRRR) and a $4,000 grant from the Renmark Paringa Council. Local businesses also assisted us with donations of certain items.

The total cost of the new Catering Van was approximately $15,000 (not including labour). We re-used the original chassis and axles of the old caravan, and built the new frame on top. The van has been a long time coming, and when it was delivered on Thursday night after having the stickers applied, the members were very impressed.

Its first event was Friday night, at the Renmark High School’s Spring Fair. We received a lot of good feedback about the van, but more importantly is was a pleasure to work in, and we could all stand up straight (first time in the van…) In 3 hours we cooked nearly 200 buckets of chips and nearly 700 donuts. Six members worked in the van in comfort, rotating through different jobs all night.

Its second outing was Sunday night, at the Leukaemia Foundations ‘Light the Night’ event in Renmark. In 3 hours we cooked over 80 buckets of chips and sold around 50 hotdogs.

Below are some photos of the new Catering Van.

2012 Handover a success

Instead of our usual Official Dinner and Handover, this year the incoming President (Barry Sullivan) decided to incorporate our Handover with a working bee. In the morning, most of the members arrived to cut firewood for about 4 hours for the PS Industry. The PS Industry needed additional firewood for its trip to Wentworth, along with 3 other Paddle Steamers (The PS Marion, The PS Oscar W and The PS Ruby).

The members cut approximatley 8 tonnes of firewood and stacked it next to the River for easy loading onto the Paddle Steamers.

After the woodcutting was finished, the group headed to a nearby picnic spot on some private land on the River Murray for lunch, where e were joined by wives and children.

The weather was sensational, and Barry & Kev cooked an awesome lunch on the Barbie.Barry Sullivan was awarded Apexian of the Year for 2011 – 12 for good attendance at meetings, and regular service work, as well as his additional efforts to complete the catering van. Barry displayed great charachter thoughout the year and was a worthy winner.

Below are some photos from the day.

Renmark Apex Donates $285 to Renmark North Primary School

On the 18th of November 2011, the Apex Club of Renmark cooked hot chips and donuts for the thousands of people who attended the Renmark North Primary Schools annual continental. The chip cooker was falt out for nearly 3 hours, with 6 members kept busy all night cooking and serving. The event was a great welcome to the club for Kevin Van Amstel, and he learnt how to use the chip cooker under pressure.

Whilst the donuts didn’t pan out so well, the chips were a massive hit.

From the profit of the night, the Apex Club donated $285 to the School.

Santa Service – Renmark Paringa Area

The Apex Club of Renmark provides a Santa Service for various community and sporting groups, as well as commercial organisations. The Apex Club is traditionally the last float in the Renmark Christmas Pageant, escorting the Apex Santa on his red sleigh along the pageant route handing out lollies to the children that line the streets.

The Apex club has recently invested a lot of money in a professional, high quality suit, and our Mystery Santa has all the Christmas cheer required to please the crowd.

If  you would like Santa to appear at your Christmas event, please contact us.
